One-off Alfa Romeo RL Normale Coupé de Ville to top Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elégance at Salon Privé
- Thirteen exciting classes announced, led by unique 1924 Alfa Romeo RL Normale Coupé de Ville
- Entries confirmed also include 1923 Voisin Type C6 Laboratoire entered by California’s Mullin Automotive Museum
- Over 20 motorbikes ranging from a 1917 Matchless-Vickers 8B2/M Russian Military Motorcycle Combination to a 1954 Vincent Black Knight
Promising its best line-up yet, Salon Privé has announced that over 65 extremely rare cars and 20 exceptional motorbikes are entered at its annual Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elégance competition. The world-renowned concours, now in its eleventh year, continues to attract exotic entries from across the globe.
Headlining the concours and lining up in the Pre-war Coachwork class is a unique 1924 Alfa Romeo RL Normale Coupé de Ville by Farré. This remarkable one-of-one car was delivered new to Barcelona, bodied in striking Caoba wood by celebrated European coachbuilder J Farré. The car, which has never been seen at Salon Privé, will be showcased on the South Lawn of Blenheim Palace.
Another exceptional car confirmed for the concours competition is a recently restored 1956 Ferrari 500 TR ‘Testa Rossa’. New to the show field, and famed for its consecutive victories in the 1956 and 1957 Nassau Speed Weeks, the car has been lured out of hiding – having been in storage for more than 50 years – to compete in the Racing Improves the Breed class. One of just eighteen examples, this model also finished second in its Class in the Cuban Gran Prix of 1957.
Another exceptional racing model to be gracing the lawns of Blenheim Palace this September is the extraordinary 1923 Voisin Type C6 Laboratoire. A rolling laboratory for Voisin’s experimental technology, this car’s aerodynamic, streamlined profile was inspired by the wing of an airplane and its monocoque structure is a wonder to behold. Entered by the Mullin Automotive Museum, the C6 will travel from its home in California to compete at Salon Privé and is entered in the Voisins – Aviation to Automotive class.
To complement the array of beautiful cars on display, the three motorbike classes promise to be just as impressive with a 1917 Matchless-Vickers 8B2/M Russian Military Motorcycle Combination confirmed to be competing in the Exceptional Motorcycles 1900-1939 class. One of just three surviving World War One machine gun combinations, and the only Matchless version, this special motorbike is usually found in Dorset’s Tank Museum and is owned by the British Motorcycle Charitable Trust. In the Exceptional Motorcycles 1940 – 1975 Highway class, a rare and recently restored Vincent Black Knight with only 1,000 miles on the clock, is sure to turn two-wheeled heads at the event.
With an ex-Works Porsche 911 Tour de France, which collected silverware at the 1970 race, and a late production Lamborghini Miura P400S confirmed previously as early entries; it seems the competition this year is set to be extremely fierce as Salon Privé disclose another handful of outstanding contenders.
