Salon Privé founders are among the winners at Historic Motoring Awards

Andrew and David Bagley – the brothers who founded Salon Privé – won the Personal Achievement award at the Octane Historic Motoring Awards on 18 November. Now in its 11th year, the black-tie ceremony gathered the great and the good from the classic car world at the Rosewood Hotel in central London.

After launching Salon Privé in 2006 at the Hurlingham Club, Andrew and David Bagley have expanded the event into a five-day festival at Blenheim Palace that spills out into the neighbouring village of Woodstock. At its heart is one of the world’s most prestigious Concours d’Elégance, which attracts some of the most famous and coveted cars ever made – the 2021 Best of Show was a sublime 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet A.

This year’s event also included innovative new elements such as the jaw-dropping Red Collection – which showcased everything from an Alfa 8C and Ferrari 250 GTO to a McLaren F1 – a live action ‘hill sprint’ through the grounds of Blenheim Palace, and the presence of the world’s leading watchmakers for Salon Privé TIME.

The esteemed judging panel for the Historic Motoring Awards included legendary racing driver Derek Bell, collectors Bruce Meyer and Peter Neumark, Jay Leno, and Peter Auto founder Patrick Peter. They all recognised and paid tribute to the way in which the Bagleys had created one of the world’s greatest celebrations of motoring history – an event that provides an experience that is second to none in its blend of great cars and first-class hospitality.

After receiving the Personal Achievement award, Andrew Bagley commented: ‘This is very much an award for our wonderful team and also for those many people, clients and sponsors who’ve generously supported us from the early years. You know who you are and thank you.’

David Bagley added: ‘Salon Privé 2021 was our most ambitious event yet. From the demonstration runs to The Red Collection, it was a reflection of our passion to keep innovating and looking to the future, and we’re delighted that it was so well received.’

Enthusiasts won’t have to wait until September 2022 and Blenheim Palace for the next instalment, thanks to the announcement of Salon Privé London, which opens at the iconic Royal Hospital Chelsea from April 21 – 23. A new Season opener, high on style, energetic and with a vibrant atmosphere, it’s sure to become a firm diary fixture and a major automotive event in the capital.
